10 Lifesaving Ways to Beat the Christmas Hustle

10 Lifesaving Ways to Beat the Christmas Hustle

Christmas can be one of the most joyful and exciting times of year. Holiday parties, Santa Claus, Christmas movies, gingerbread men, FOOD. I mean, what's better?

Unfortunately, Christmas can also be stressful and exhausting.

If you want to avoid the some of the negative aspects that come from the holidays, keep reading.

Here are our 10 best tips to surviving the hustle and to help you enjoy season, stress-free.

1. Make a Christmas budget

Overspending can be one of the worst things about Christmas and ruin the entire experience. Sure, your mom will love the Vitamix you're getting her, but is it really worth maxing out your credit card?

Take 30 minutes to make a quick budget of how much you can spend this holiday season to avoid a visit from the repo man.

2. Don't go holiday shopping during busy hours

Or better yet, order online. If busy stores stress you out, DO NOT go to the mall on weekends, or after 5 p.m.

People can get crazy during the holidays, and a stressful environment might freak you out even more, and prolong your gift-shopping.

3. Go to a dollar store for all your wrapping accessories

You've finished shopping for mom, dad, your sisters, your brother, your best friends, your grand parents, your nephews, OH and your cat. But don't forget that you actually have to wrap them all, too.

Wrapping paper and accessories can be EXPENSIVE, and if you get them last minute, it can put a real dent in your pocket. For all of your wrapping needs, go to a dollar store. It's your cheapest option and most of the time, they have the exact same (and in some cases, way nicer) wrapping paper than the big box or specialty stores.

4. Stock up on eggnog and holiday treats

Planning a Christmas dinner? Or maybe you're going to a potluck and you've decided to make your famous sugar cookies.

Don't wait until the last minute to get your ingredients or traditional Christmas goodies. Grab them early. Stores typically start to sell out of things the week before Christmas, and you don't want to show up empty handed because you were too late.

5. Make an agenda for the month

With all of the parties, dinners and events in December, writings things down or making an agenda will seriously save your life. Take the stress of forgetting and forgiving people (from forgetting) by putting them in a calendar. Pick one up at the dollar store, or use your phone!

6. Make a personal Christmas list on Giftster and give it to your friends and family

Giftster is gift-registry website that allows you to make a Christmas list and share it with anyone you want. It allows you to insert links too, so if the product is online, they can buy it right away. This will save YOU and whoever's shopping for you tons of time.

7. Homemade coupons will save the day

Your shopping is done, and now you're wrapping gifts. Then it hits you. Cousin Jim has way more gifts then grandma Sue. If this happens, and you have no more money to spend, throw in a homemade coupon.

People LOVE homemade coupons, and they're great because you get to make up the rules.

For example, you could make a coupon for "dinner for two at your favourite restaurant", or "movie for two, includes popcorn and a drink!"

Then you can add rules and restrictions like "valid from January 2018-December 2018" or "coupon must be present for use."

Family members usually get a kick out of it, and sometimes appreciate it way more then the gift itself.

8. Eat bad, but drinks lots of water

In December, we often forget about our health and go nuts. We stop going to the gym, eating healthy, and breakfast can often consist of leftover Christmas cookies and advent calendar chocolates. If this is happening to you, IT'S OKAY. Don't stress.

To feel better about your bad eating habits, make it a point to drink tons of water throughout the day. It will help to flush you and and keep you hydrated.

9. Wrap your gifts as you go

A lot of people leave gift wrapping until Christmas eve. This is the worst idea ever because then you either miss out on all of the Christmas Eve festivities, or you're up until 4 a.m. wrapping EVERYTHING.

If you wrap as you go, you'll avoid having to do it last minute and you'll get to enjoy Christmas Eve with the people who matter most.

Even if you wrap one gift a day, you'll be making progress.

10. Wine and bulk Christmas cards are your new best friends

Going to a Christmas party and not sure what to bring? Wine.

Have to send out Christmas cards but can't afford to spend $5.00 per card? Buy them in bulk.

Wine is one of the best gifts you can bring or give to any Christmas party because almost everyone likes it, and it's relatively cheap.

Even if someone doesn't drink wine, they can use it for cooking, or save it and serve it to other guests.

Bulk Christmas cards great too because it takes the stress away of finding the perfect card for friends and family, it saves you tons of time, and they are much cheaper than buying individual cards.

Now that you know how to survive Christmas, get our there and have a ball! Oh, and don't forget to leave some almond milk and gluten-free cookies for Santa.

6 Very Useful DIY Body Scrub Tips

6 Very Useful DIY Body Scrub Tips

Did you know...

You can make your own custom scrubs with a few simple ingredients? Seriously, just look on Pinterest, and you'll find tons of awesome recipes!

Do you know what else? Homemade scrubs make AMAZING Christmas gifts! So if you want to spoil your friends and family with homemade scrubs, keep reading for our best tips and tricks to make sure your scrubs are a hit!

1. Use sugar as an exfoliant base

Sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So when you apply products with sugar or sugar derivatives, they’ll actually help hydrate your skin and keep it moisturized. It’s also environmentally friendly!

Always avoid microbeads or other plastic exfoliants.

2. Use organic oils for sensitive skin

Don’t risk it! The human skin is an extremely sensitive organ. The last thing you want is to clog your friends' pores over the holidays. Organic oils are the best way to avoid bad break outs and rashes.

3. Test it out

Once you’re happy with your scrub, take it for a test drive. Turn on the shower and see for yourself if you’re happy with the scent, scrub and moisturizing benefits of your home made gem.

If you're not, tweak your recipe!

4. Get water proof labels/tags

Been there, done that.

Body scrubs typically hang out in humid areas. To keep your gift looking snazzy, make sure your tags and labels are waterproof so they don't peel off.

5. Pick the right package

Think that Mason jar is cute? Think again… As much as it may look the part, avoid glass jars at all cost. Body scrubs are used in slippery, wet areas and we like avoiding injuries as much as possible.

6. Buy in bulk

Carefully measure and plan for how much of each ingredient you will need. Making homemade scrubs for holiday gifts can definitely make your bank account happy, but having left over ingredients can be a big waste.

5 Easy Ways to Boost Your Confidence

5 Easy Ways to Boost Your Confidence

Let’s face it – Today’s world is full of insecurity, anxiety and stress. We say NO!

We strive to promote confidence and self love.

Here’s a list of easy tricks to make you feel great about yourself when you're feeling down (and won't cost you a penny)!

If you have these skills perfected – YOU GO GIRL!! Be a gem, and share them with a friend who might need a boost.

#1. List your strengths

It’s important to take the time to identify your strengths. No we’re not talking about those squats at the gym. Sit down and make a list of your top strengths — aim for 10 and be creative!

Lock up your modest internal editor in another room. Don’t be too humble, be accurate, and be easy on yourself.

#2. Celebrate your wins

Boost your well-being by acknowledging your achievements, big and small. After creating an endless to-do list, getting through a hectic day and realizing you have an even bigger list tomorrow, it’s likely that you will overlook what could be a major source of daily happiness.

Eating a healthy breakfast, saying "no" to someone, taking time for yourself, going to the gym, facing a fear, or even completing a small task should be considered an achievement!

#3. Accept compliments

Do you deflect compliments? While most people often can't fully accept compliments, YOU need to make sure you start believing them.

First - stop thinking that accepting compliments makes you conceited.

Second - it’s okay to let yourself feel proud of something you did. It’s quite possible to be modest, while still being grateful and gracious.

#4. Feel good about your financial situation

Most people have financial trouble at some point in your life, but if you are able to pay your bills, save some money, and still splurge from time to time, you're way ahead of the game.

Knowing that you have fewer debts, money for emergencies, and a retirement plan in action can reduce your stress. You sleep better, your overall health improves, and you feel happier about life.

#5. Don’t “should” yourself

I should go to bed earlier,” “I know I should meditate more,” “I should probably cut out sugar,” and “I shouldn’t drink as much wine.”

Feeling guilty and overwhelmed breeds inaction and stagnancy, so the more you feel like you “should” do something, the less likely you’ll actually do it. Getting in touch with “what’s most important to me right now?” is a fantastic way to strip “should” of its unwarranted power.

5 Incredible Benefits of Avocado Oil

5 Incredible Benefits of Avocado Oil

Like we've preached over and over again, we only use the BEST and most natural ingredients in our Koffee scrub. We strive to give you the softest yet most beneficial exfoliation experience while moisturizing your skin to get those silky smooth results.

And that's why we use *drumroll please* avocado oil!

Here are 5 quick reasons why we use this delectable oil in our scrubs.

Avocados

1. Smooths and moisturizes the skin

If you have dry skin, avocado oil is the oil for you! This stuff is rich in oleic acid, therefor, it's a great moisturizer for your skin and will even penetrate it deeper than coconut oil, thus leaving better results.

2. Reduces acne

This magical oil is packed with vitamin E which helps to moisturize your skin and prevent breakouts. It's also full of antioxidants which can help with pimples, sun spots, and damaged skin AND keeps the bad bacteria away.

Avocado oil is good for all skin types, even the ones that are oily and acne prone!

3. Anti-aging

Avocado oil helps to boost collagen production, which in turn will to strengthen your skin, replace dead skin cells, and help with elasticity. Big conclusion? It will help to make your skin look and feel more fresh and youthful.

4. A natural sunscreen

According to boldsky.com, avocado oil provides an SPF protection of 15 due to the high volume of mono-saturated fats. Other sources indicate that the SPF is between 4-10. Regardless, you're getting a slight protection from the rays with avocado oil! Just don't rely on it completely for your sun protection.

5. Reduces appearance of scars

It has been said that avocado oil will help to heal minor scaring when applied regularly, reduce age spots, and sun damage to the skin.

TO CONCLUDE

Avocado oil has tons of health and beauty benefits (these are just our top 5 for your skin)! Other benefits include that it reduces joint and arthritis pain, it helps with skin conditions such as eczema, and it helps to repair hair!

Needless to say, we are all still obsessed with avocados. Whether we're eating them, or using its oil on our skin.

Everything You Need To Know About Exfoliation

Everything You Need To Know About Exfoliation

“I’m a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care, you really won’t need a lot of makeup"

 - Demi Moore

Demi Moore

Contour this, foundation that, highlight pack, bronzer, concealer, primer, setting powder, eyelash curler, eyebrow pencils, and a whole lot of make up remover. And repeat.

No wonder you don't like to wash your face before bed!

Makeup on Pillow

Does this sound like you? If so, you need to exfoliate. Check out these FAQs.

1. What exactly is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the general term for the process that removes dead skin cells.

2. What happens?

Exfoliants gently remove built-up dead skin for smoother, noticeably renewed skin.

3. Who is exfoliating for?

It's for everyone! Whether you love spending hours on your makeup, or you're a mascara and chapstick kind of girl, exfoliating your face and body regularly will help to prep your skin and keep it in its best condition, no matter what your preference is.

Caring for your skin should NOT be optional; it's a necessity! When your skin is fresh and glowing with good health, your makeup will look 1000 times better (because of your gorgeous skin). You'll even become less reliant on it to cover things up (because there won't be anything to cover up, duh).

4. What are the benefits?

Exfoliation is one of the most important aspects of skin care and can drastically change your skin's appearance over time. It is a process that is meant to support your daily skincare routine.

In our opinion, exfoliating is just as important as brushing your teeth.

Environmental damage causes the surface of the skin to become dull, rough, and uneven. Exfoliating eliminates this build up, which otherwise would cause clogged pores, uneven skin tone, acne and large pimples, and worsen the appearance of fine lines and deeper wrinkles.

Exfoliating will:

  • unclog pores
  • minimize redness
  • diminish the look of wrinkles and age spots
  • hydrate your skin
  • visibly improve uneven skin tones

5. Other benefits:

Exfoliating is one of the only skin routines that leaves the skin noticeably smoother after just ONE application. It is also great for people with dry skin as it allows better moisture penetration (meaning you won't have to apply as much moisturizer).

6. How often you should exfoliate?

That depends on your #skincaregoals!

If you just want to smooth out rough skin, weekly exfoliating is a great place to start. If you have more ambitious goals, like wrinkle or scar reduction, you will probably end up exfoliating three times a week.

7. How long will it take before I see results?

If you are looking for real change, it will take months.  You aren’t just changing how you skin looks; you are actually changing how it is. It needs time to grow into its better self. Going slow will produce better results than doing too much too fast and actually damaging your skin.

Start off with once a week, and slowly work your way up.

8.The aftermath

You'll feel confident in your skin, no makeup required! Your body will feel soft, moisturized, and glowy, and you'll soon start to get compliments on your skin. Add a little mascara and some lipgloss, and you'll be good to go.

Scrub So Safe, You Can Eat It

Scrub So Safe, You Can Eat It

We all know what we use on our skin ends up inside our bodies. So when you're out buying products, it's important to either...

Nicki Palmer

1. Buy a magnifying glass and read the fine print of the ingredient list and then Google each ingredient.

OR

2. Buy products with fewer ingredients that you actually recognize!

If the products you use contain harmful ingredients such as toxic chemicals, colours, and fragrances, those ingredients make their way into your body, your blood and lymphatic system.

If your skin is as sensitive as mine, it’ll quickly show you it does NOT like chemicals! Insert red dot here, here and here…

-Founder, Estelle Doiron.

Side note: Estelle does not even buy body lotion with fragrances because her skin is so sensitive.

Koffee Organics body scrubs are made of certified organic food ingredients – So safe you could eat it, or casually swallow it while you're in the shower. We won't judge you.

But what does it take for food to be considered “certified”?

If you can spot the "USDA Organic" or even "Certified Organic" seal on the label of your food item or product, the item must have an ingredient list and the contents should be 95% or more certified organic. This means free of synthetic additives like pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and dyes.

On top of this, the items must not be processed using industrial solvents, irradiation, or genetic engineering, according to the USDA. The remaining 5% may only be foods, or processed with additives on an approved list.

"Certified Organic" isn't the only label you'll see though. You may also see "100% organic," which means all of the ingredients must meet the guidelines above.

You may also spot labels that say "made with organic," which means that the ingredients must contain 70% or more organic ingredients. In this case, the USDA seal cannot be used anywhere on the package, and the remaining 30% could contain ingredients on the list of items not certified or natural

#SCRUBADUBDUB!!!

Skin is the LARGEST organ in your body, and is extremely porous and absorbs whatever you put on it. A study published in the American Journal of Public Health looked into the skin's absorption rates of chemicals found in drinking water. It showed that the skin absorbed an average of 64% of total contaminant dosage.

(That's why we use only the best organic ingredients, so your skin absorbs the good stuff!)

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Coconut Oil

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a multi-use, magic-like oil with hundreds of health benefits. We wanted to give you the top reasons as to why you should be using coconut oil.

Not all coconut oil is the same. In order to enjoy its amazing benefits, then you must get organic, virgin coconut oil, not the refined stuff!

1. One tall skinny vanilla latte please, hold the pumpkin scone

One interesting feature of coconut oil is that it can reduce your hunger. This is related to the way the fatty acids are metabolized, because ketones can have an appetite reducing effect.

Add a little coconut oil to your smoothies, coffee, or even in your frying pan to gain its hunger suppressing benefits (and a delightful flavour!)

Fun fact: Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil is lauric acid. When digested, it can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi.

coconut tree

2. Pass the moisturizer- I mean coconut oil!

Many people are using coconut oil for cosmetic purposes and to improve the health and appearance of their skin and hair. When applied on dry skin, coconut oil can improve the moisture and fat content of skin. Coconut oil can also be very protective against hair damage and as a low UV sunscreen, blocking about 20% of the sun's ultraviolet rays

Coconut oil, is one of the few truly rich sources of lauric acid. Lauric acid is rare in nature so you won't be getting it from any other oils in your favourite facial products. It’s been found to boost antioxidant content in the skin and help wounds heal faster. The compounds found in our beloved coconut oil help prevent sun and age related damage to skin.

3. Say goodbye to nasty skin conditions

As mentioned above, coconut oil is highly useful as a topical moisturizer due to its hydrating abilities. In addition to fighting the dryness of the skin, coconut oil can also be used as an aid in treating skin infection like atopic dermatitis (eczema!) You may not know this, but your skin cells actually contain fatty acids, just like most other cells in your body.

Checkout this awesome coconut moisturizer recipe!

Beautiful hair

4. Repair and prevent damage to your hair

Coconut oil is also known to prevent combing damage. When compared to various other oils such as sunflower oil and mineral oil, coconut oil had a substantially greater impact on reducing protein loss in hair. The reasoning behind this lies in the oil’s structure. After shampooing, apply coconut oil to your hair and put it up in a bun for 10-15 minutes, or keep it in overnight! Rinse it off in the morning and your hair will feel like silk.

Clocks

5. Your skin will go back in time

The special fatty acids in coconut oil naturally balance saturated to unsaturated fatty acids levels in the skin. Because of this, the skin can heal and repair itself better to prevent wrinkles and sun damage caused by sun exposure. Additionally, coconut oil has been shown to stimulate collagen production and replacement. Instead of attempting to mask or dry up wrinkles on the face, the collagen production stimulated by coconut oil connects and strengthens tissues, leading to tighter, more youthful looking skin.
